Laser engraving medical instruments

Laser engraving medical instruments with fiber engraving lasers

Fiber engraving lasers are extremely suitable for laser engraving medical instruments. The surface is processed to depths of 0.3 – 0.5 mm. Marking lasers are capable of producing clearly recognizable structures from dimensions of 1 mm in materials such as steel, precious metals and many types of plastics with a low laser power, without the need for complex operations or environmentally unfriendly materials. The marking lasers work with a fixed laser source, which sends the laser light through a fiber to two mirrors. The mirrors move the laser beam over the material with great precision to achieve the required pattern. By using a focus lens, there is a small height in which the laser can effectively release its heat into the product, making the laser safe to use. Outside this range, the laser strength is too low to cause damage to other materials.

Permanent marking. Clean, fast and without additives

The advantage of laser engraving medical instruments with laser technology is that the markings cannot be removed from the instrument, other than to grind them completely out of the object. Marking with this laser are corrosion resistant, because they are marked in the existing material. No glue or ink additives are needed that can come loose or dissolve during cleaning processes.

Laser engraving medical instruments application

More and more products need to be traceable today, for logistics, maintenance and safety reasons. Tracing parts and products starts with applying a number that is recognizable and unique to the organization. Especially in this application, marking lasers are an exceptional addition for companies and hospitals. Surgical instruments and implants used in the medical sector are made of very high quality materials. Accurate identification of, for example, medical instruments and hearing aids, with barcodes and serial numbers, is necessary. Such markings must be accurate, permanent and indelible to meet the demands of everyday life in the medical world.

Permanent and durable identification

Marking with a laser meets these requirements. It offers durable and durable identification in color change, without affecting the surface structure of the material. In addition, the marking is free of rough edges, in which bacteria could accumulate. Your medical instruments are guaranteed to be sterile.

Suitable materials

You can use MetaQuip marking lasers to mark the following materials. If your material is not listed, please contact MetaQuip and we will look into the options for you free of charge.

  • metal
  • Titanium
  • Synthetic,
  • Ceramics and many other materials used in the medical sector.

MetaQuip's Fiberlaser laser engraving machines

For laser engraving/marking medical instruments, such as metal surgical tools, which are often made of titanium, stainless steel or other metals, a 20W fiber engraving machine is the most suitable model. The choice of an open or closed bed application depends on the location where the laser can be installed. If the laser can be placed in an enclosed space with an indication sign or signal lamp showing when it is in use and the operator wears protective laser goggles, there are no risks whatsoever for use.

Fiber engraving lasers require little to no maintenance. The laser source has an expected lifespan of 100k burning hours, which can be easily achieved under normal circumstances. There are few to no moving parts that require service or maintenance. The supplied computer works standalone, is equipped with official Windows and marking software and will not require an update.

There are, apart from deliberately destroying, little or no possibility to damage the marking laser or interfere with use. If the laser is correctly started, the laser is ready to be used quickly and safely.
