How does laser cutting work plastic?

Laser cutting of plastics or cutting acrylic is one of the most common laser applications. But other plastics such as (thin 0.8-1.0 mm) polycarbonate, polypropylene and polyethylene can also be cut with the laser. Normally, CO2 lasers are used for this type of laser cutting. This wavelength responds very well to a large number of plastic materials.

What are the advantages of laser engraving and laser cutting of plastic?

Depending on the type of plastic, laser cutting, laser engraving and laser marking offer many advantages: When laser cutting acrylic, for example, the user will be amazed by the flame-polished cutting edges that are produced. When working with polycarbonate film, the laser can make a profit by creating clean cuts without fire residues and by the high processing speed. Laser cutting of polyester produces clean and closed cutting edges.

How does laser marking and engraving of plastics work?

Many commercially used plastics can be permanently, fraud-resistant and marked and engraved in high quality. High flexibility and short set-up times make it possible to mark efficiently even when it comes to small batch sizes. Clear texts, datamatrix codes or logos are produced. Fiber lasers are mainly used for marking and engraving. The following materials are especially suitable for this process: ABS, PA, PES, PC.

Why do laser machines cut faster than cutting plotters?
