A MetaQuip laser can be used in a fast and easy way for laser cutting of textiles and a large number of fabrics. Types of textile suitable for laser cutting include aramid, fleece, lace, polyester, linen, cotton, silk, felt. MetaQuip lasers are also used for laser cutting of strong materials such as Kevlar or other synthetic and technical textiles.

How does laser engraving work on textiles?

Laser engraving refines the surface of the material, so the quality of the material increases. In addition, a haptic effect is produced during laser engraving; this in contrast to printing. Special advantages when using the laser on textiles are: speed, flexibility and precision. The nesting function, which is included in the laser software, ensures that economic use is made of the substances.

Which designs and sizes of fabrics can I cut with a laser cutter?

Whether you want to engrave fleece or produce extravagant cutting shapes on curtains or lace, the laser offers you unbelievable design possibilities. Almost all designs can be realized with the laser.

What are the advantages compared to conventional cutting processes?

Laser cutting of textiles is a contactless and tool-free process. There is no contact during the laser cutting process. As a result, there is no question of the warping of textiles and fabrics. The laser beam melts the material, after which clean and smooth cuts result. Rafting of the final product is hereby excluded.

Can I cut all materials equally well with the laser?

The laser cutting of synthetic materials works very well. These materials often contain plastic or polyester. The laser beam melts the polyester in a controlled manner. This ensures that fraying edges are excluded. When laser cutting organic textiles, for example cotton or linen, the cut produced is slightly brown in color (this effect also occurs with wood).
This effect can be compensated to a certain extent by selecting the right lens and laser parameters and by using compressed air.

Suitable laser machines

For cutting wood, leather, and a large number of plastics, you have one CO2 laser machine required. Important things to keep in mind are: what is the maximum size of the object that I want to cut out, that determines the size of your worktop and what is the maximum thickness that has to be cut that determines the laser power you need.
