Traceability of products

Track and trace of parts and products

100% Product traceability is on the rise. Nowadays it is no longer an exception but more a requirement that one wants to know where the materials, parts and sub-assemblies come from, when and by whom they were made. Producers are increasingly required to affix product information on the product and / or on the product packaging. This has already been fully implemented in the food industry, but this trend is on the rise in the high-tech industry.

Every product has its own, unique code

By using bar, data matrix or QR codes, product information can be applied easily and accessible. Date, type, serial number, production location and other specific information can be included in the code so that a unique and complete picture can be provided quickly. There are also many free scan apps available (example QR-tripod for android) for smartphones, so that every employee has direct access to the information without having to make significant investments as a company.

Curious whether laser technology is suitable for your application?

You are most welcome to see whether laser technology is a suitable solution for your cutting or engraving application or application. Bring your digital design or material to a demonstration and we can view the result on the spot. Of course you can also send it.

Quickly apply unique codes with a fiber laser

Codes can be applied quickly and easily with fiber lasers. Since codes are often not large in size, a fiber laser is extremely suitable because the mirror head can apply codes up to 1500 mm / sec at high speeds. The software already has several bar-code type conversion options built in as standard, allowing manual, text or Excel files or server control, codes can be directly converted and lasered. The software also has options to add date, time and automatic increment to the code.

What does it deliver in practice?

In addition to tracing the origin of a component, improved product traceability also has broader applicability. Codes are also applied for stock management, location determination and uniform communication between employees.

Example: hospital environment

An example is the implementation of code use in a hospital environment for devices and/or instruments used in surgical procedures. The fiber laser can apply the code directly to the metal objects without creating deep surface structures. This makes it easy to sterilize the instruments without the code being able to come off. No need for stickers anymore. By scanning the instruments and documenting their location, the hospital can know which tools have been used for which surgery, whether they have all been sterilized after use, where they are stored and how often they have been used to monitor wear, reduce loss and use of “dirty” instruments.

Example: the machine builder

In another application, a customer has provided all components with a code for an improved product traceability. For assembly, these are scanned so that the total built-up machine is known, what has been built up, when and by whom, but also in the event of malfunctions which parts need to be replaced.

Fiber lasers for fast application of codes on plastic and metal

Smart application of codes can save time and money. Fiber lasers can apply these in plastics and metals, including any codes and/or other necessary recognition elements, logos and/or texts. If you would like more information about the use and application, please do not hesitate to contact us via info@metaquip.nl or take a look at our fiber lasers.
